Mary Kings Design has been documenting my artistic journey for the past ten years. Believe me when I say, life is too short not to explore all the creative world has to offer.
Who is Mary Kings?
My name is actually Maria. And I was born and raised in São Paulo, Brazil. I've been drawing since a very young age. At around 10 years old, I started in a very small Art School where I was introduced to fine art techniques.
By fourteen, I was already helping my parents to design logos for their MBAs. That was the moment I knew graphic design was one of the fields I wanted to explore!
After high school, I began my college journey, majoring in Communication /Advertising in Brazil. Later, I transferred to Oakland University as a Bachelor's in Graphic Design student with a concentration in Art History. Mary Kings was one of my personal branding projects in college - Mary (as my friends here would call me) and translating one of my last names ( "Reis”, which means “Kings" in English). After that, I chose to use it as my “brand" and signature for artistic and professional works.
WHO AM I AS AN ARTIST?
My personal goal as an artist is to balance traditional and modern art skills, giving the same importance and reverence to both. Having this balance of skills is what allows me to approach all my areas of expertise with a different point of view.
I take my inspirations from the mid-century modern and art deco periods. As well as a deep admiration for the unique and slightly dark style of drawing.

In the past few years, I was lucky to work with a broad spectrum of clients, all of them with different backgrounds and unique ideas for their own businesses. Having someone else share their vision and expectations for the future is something that really inspires me to do my work. It's not just about building their brand, but about making their dreams and goals a reality.
I'm always looking for different ways to approach branding, and it is essential to me that my clients have a clear understanding of my design process. Connecting is necessary for personal and professional development. My clients and co-workers teach me a lot every day, and I'm happy to share my knowledge with them too.
